Guillermo Gándara is the new President of RIBER

During the last RIBER meeting held in Monterrey 2024 on September 24-25, just before The Millennium Project Planning Committee, a significant leadership transition occurred. The management of RIBER’s Board of Directors was officially handed over from Jose Luis Cordeiro, Venezuela Node Chair, to Guillermo Gándara, Professor at the Tecnológico de Monterrey and member of the Mexico Node.
The 2024 Annual Meeting of the Ibero-American Foresight Network (RIBER) took place in the city of Monterrey, Mexico at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, sponsored by the Futures Design Lab and the Constellation of Futurists of the School of Architecture, Art, and Design. During the development of the meeting, important activities were carried out, such as the change of command in the Board of Directors of the network, the presentation of work by members from various countries, educational innovation activities for the exploration of futures and panels and conferences and signing of agreements of collaboration.
The new Board of Directors led by Guillermo Gándara is integrated by: Verónica Ágreda (Bolivia Node Chair), Karelys Abarca (Venezuela Node), Marcelo Ramírez (Chile), Marco Moreno (Mexico Node). RIBER is now a open network to any Ibero-American person or institution interested in Foresight and in general in the futures exploration. Among its main objectives are the consolidation of the network after 9 years of existence.
The new board of directors presented its work plan for the period 2024-2026 with five themes: Communication, Strategic Projects, Research – Studies, Linkage and Organizational. Among its main objectives is the consolidation of the network after 9 years of existence with the attraction of new personal and institutional members. The network’s new website was also presented.
There was in-person participation from 20 members from 9 countries, who presented the advances and state of the art of foresight in their respective countries: Arnoldo de Hoyos (Brazil), Héctor Casanueva and Marcelo Ramirez (Chile), Carlos William Mera and Darío Sierra (Colombia), Angel Ortega and Giovanni Rodríguez (Costa Rica), Tony Carbonero (El Salvador), Ibon Zugasti (Spain), Yiem Ataucusi (Peru), José Luis Cordeiro and Karelys Abarca (Venezuela), and Concepción Olavarrieta, Guillermo Gándara , Marco Moreno, Elvira Luna, Samantha Yee, Xóchitl Arias, Yadira Ornelas and Saúl Cabriales (Mexico). There was also the online participation of 10 members: José Castro, Susana Coper, Vicente Dávila, Lydia Garrido, Lucio Henao, Jan Hurwitch, Luis Ragno, Leonel Tavares, Javier Vitale, and Carlos von Marschall.
During the afternoon sessions, the Virtual Reality Laboratory of the Tecnológico de Monterrey was visited, where an experiential immersion in the Escape Room Future Exploration was carried out. This educational innovation aims to become a new way of teaching-learning the concepts, principles, approaches, methodologies and tools of Strategic Foresight, through the design of a virtual collaborative learning space based on the solution of conceptual challenges in a escape room format. The Escape Room Future Exploration is conceptualized as a space trip where participants live three experiences: takeoff, space station and landing. During the event, collaboration agreements were signed between RIBER and various institutions that seek to consolidate the discipline of Foresight and the exploration of futures in general in the region. Among the signatory institutions are: Fundemas, ANEP, CIESCE and INNBOX from El Salvador; COLTAM and iSocial of Mexico; as well as the Declaration of cooperation intentions for the creation of the common space of higher education, science, technology, and innovation with the LAC-EU Permanent Academic Forum.
As events open to the public, there was a Panel on prospective methods with the participation of Yiem Ataucusi, Héctor Casanueva, Elvira Luna and Guillermo Gándara, moderated by Yadira Ornelas, where the book Prospective Methods 2 for the exploration of futures in companies, NGOs, governments, and the global agenda. Other public events followed the next days, together with The Millennium Project Planning Committee meeting.
