We are pleased to announce that Prof. Sirkka Heinonen, Co-chair of the Helsinki Node of The Millennium Project, has been elected to the Board of Directors of The Millennium Project.
Prof. Heinonen is a distinguished Finnish futures researcher and strategic foresight practitioner. Her expertise includes perceptions of time, futures thinking, urban futures, and anticipating technological risks on society and nature. She is the inventor of the concepts “Creative Foresight Space” and “Futures Cliniques.” For many years, Prof. Heinonen has made continuous and substantial contributions to The Millennium Project as co-chair of its Helsinki Node through publications, workshops, and active leadership on key foresight topics.
Prof. Heinonen has also contributed significantly to Finnish national foresight efforts, including the Government’s Futures Report to Parliament and the renewal of the Finnish National Strategy for the Information Society. As a professor at the Finland Futures Research Centre, University of Turku, she leads the Master’s Programme in Futures Studies, promoting futures literacy and sustainable knowledge society development. She also holds editorial roles in leading futures journals and is President of the Finnish Society for Futures Studies.
The election was conducted using the new RealTime Delphi platform developed by the Polish Node’s 4 Futures Literacy Company. This innovative tool enabled transparent, dynamic voting by Board Chairs across the network. Candidates were nominated by Millennium Project Nodes worldwide and evaluated on the following criteria: Activity in The Millennium Project, Experience in Futures Research, Fundraising capacity, and Leadership.
Prof. Heinonen received the highest overall score, reflecting her outstanding contributions and leadership. Other candidates, including Mara Di Berardo, Jose Cordeiro, Blaz Golob, Epaminondas Christophilopoulos, Rohit Talwar, Shermon Cruz, Norbert Kołos, Reyhan Huseynova, Verónica Agreda, Yadira Ornelas, Mariana Todorova, Puruesh Chaudhary, and Brock Hinzmann, received strong evaluations as well.
We congratulate Prof. Sirkka Heinonen on her election to the Board and look forward to her valuable guidance in advancing The Millennium Project’s mission for global foresight and sustainable futures. We also commend the Polish Node for developing the RealTime Delphi platform, which has enhanced governance transparency and participation within the Project.
