The Institute of International Studies at the University of Chile is offering an engaging new online course titled “United Nations 2.0: Global Challenges, Strategic Foresight, and the Pact for the Future” from January 13–17, 2025. This innovative program will examine the outcomes of the 2024 Summit of the Future, which aimed to redefine multilateralism in response to 21st-century global challenges, including sustainability, technological transformation, and existential risks to humanity.
The course is led by Héctor Casanueva, Chile Node Chair of The Millennium Project, in collaboration with The Millennium Project and RIBER among others, and will focus on the “Pact for the Future,” a major initiative endorsed at the UN’s 2024 Summit. The Pact outlines five critical areas—sustainable development, peace and security, digital transformation, future generations, and global governance—with 56 actionable proposals designed to transform the United Nations into a more agile, responsive, and resilient UN 2.0.
Participants will explore strategic foresight as a tool for enhancing international policymaking and addressing pressing global challenges. The program is especially relevant for academics, diplomats, students, and professionals interested in international relations, global governance, and strategic foresight.
The course brings together leading experts, including members of The Millennium Project and prominent scholars in international relations, economics, and strategic foresight, such as Héctor Casanueva, Ibon Zugasti, Deputy Director and Spain Node Chair, and Javier Vitale, Mendoza Sub-Node Co-Chair, among others.
