On September 6, 2024, renowned Turkish journalist and opinion leader Fatih Altaylı hosted Ufuk Tarhan, Co-Chair of the Turkey Node of The Millennium Project, on his highly popular YouTube show, Teke Tek (“One to One”). Altaylı invited Tarhan to explore her work as a futurist, as well as the significance of future-oriented thinking in a rapidly evolving world.
During the interview, Tarhan spoke about her career, her influential book Don’t Leave Tomorrow’s Work for Tomorrow and T-Human, and the broader implications of futurism in today’s society. Altaylı, who admires Tarhan’s work, delved into how her books have inspired him personally, and they both discussed the need for foresight and adaptability in the face of technological advancements.
A key moment in the interview occurred between 15:47 and 16:38, when Tarhan highlighted the shift in the futurist community: “The World Future Society, which I was part of, is no longer active. Instead, there’s The Millennium Project, where I represent the Turkey node. The group organizes sessions involving scientists, business people, and people from various fields, discussing future scenarios such as ‘How do you see the world in 2050?’ These inputs are processed through statistical analysis and modeling for actionable insights.”
Altaylı’s Teke Tek program is known for engaging discussions on science and technology, making it an ideal platform for Tarhan to share her expertise in futures studies and inspire broader thinking about the future. The full interview is available to watch on YouTube.
