Sad news of a great futures champion whom we lost on May 22nd in her 89th year.
Hazel Henderson was a strong voice for ethics on the Board of the World Future Society, US Office of Technology Assessment (OTA no longer exists, but may come back), Calvert investments (now owned by Morgan Stanley), Worldwatch Institute, Citizens for Clean Air, and many other environmental and future-oriented social change organizations.
She was an early advocate of universal basic income, environmental indicators, ethical standards in financial investing, women’s banking, win-win solutions, getting rid of GDP and use instead indicators that included the environment and the human condition, and moved these ideas around the world as an international syndicated columnist, Fellow of the World Futures Studies Federation, and Member of the Millennium Project Planning Committee for 26 years, and a participant in many of our studies.
She was a financial sponsor of The Millennium Project for its first four years (1996-2000 via the Alan F. Kay & Hazel Henderson Foundation for Social Innovation).
