David Wood, Co-Chair of the UK Node of The Millennium Project, will host an online meeting on “The Narrow Path – the big picture” on November 9, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM CET.
The meeting will focus on advancements of Artificial Intelligence, covering topics from AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) to ASI (Artificial Superintelligence), and will feature Mariana Todorova, Chair of the Bulgaria Node, among its guest speakers together with Chris Scammell, Andrea Miotti, Robert Whitfield, and Dan Faggella.
The meeting addresses the urgent risks posed by artificial superintelligence, highlighting that while most AI development benefits humanity, the emergence of superintelligent AI could potentially lead to human extinction. Currently, there are no reliable methods to control an entity with intelligence surpassing human capabilities, nor effective ways to measure or predict the competence of such advanced AIs.
As companies worldwide invest heavily in creating AI that could exceed the combined intelligence of all humans, the question is not “if” but “when” such superintelligence might emerge. The meeting emphasizes the potential peril and calls for humanity to pursue a different, controlled approach to AI development. It envisions a future where humanity harnesses AI to achieve advancements in health, energy, and space exploration — but only if humans retain control over the technologies they create.
