The Millennium Project Brings AGI to the Fore at UN High-Level Meetings

During the High-Level UN General Session in New York (Sept. 19–26, 2025), Jerome Glenn actively engaged in a series of landmark events and dialogues on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and global governance.

Glenn addressed the Council of Presidents of the UN General Assembly, joined a dinner with the incoming UNGA President Annalena Baerbock, and participated in the Nizami Ganjavi International Center conference, the Democratic AI Governance dialogue (with Club de Madrid and Regulating AI), and AI Safety Connect (with FAR.AI, aigov-coordination, Future Society, and MILA). He also held a series of one-on-one meetings with leading AGI experts including Lan Xue (China), Duncan Cass-Beggs (Canada), Phoebe Koundouri (Greece), Yoshua Bengio (Canada), as well as long-time Millennium Project friends such as Ismail Serageldin (World Bank) and Leonel Fernández (former President of the Dominican Republic). These exchanges significantly advanced international awareness and coordination on AGI, paving the way for an informal UN country group to spearhead future AGI governance coordinatination.

Mariana Todorova, Chair of the Millennium Project’s Bulgaria Node and member of the UN High-Level AGI Expert Panel, also joined the UNCPGA meeting. Together with Glenn, she advocated for the UN to convene a special session on AGI and and the potential risks AGI poses to humanity. Later, they had the opportunity to discuss these topics with the newly elected President of the UN General Assembly, Ms. Annalena Baerbock. The UNCPGA also adopted a declaration that explicitly includes AGI. They also attended the farewell dinner of the UNCPGA alongside distinguished leaders and former UNGA Presidents.
