The Instituto de Estudios Internacionales of the University of Chile organizes an online course about “Strategic foresight, multilateralism and international relations: the macro-transition of the 21st century“, taking place in January 17-21,2022, in collaboration with the Consejo Chileno de Prospectiva y Estrategia, The Millennium Project, the Red Iberoamericana de Prospectiva (RIBER), and the Foresight Europe Network (FEN).
Many representatives from The Millennium Project are involved in the academic body, such as Jerome C. Glenn (“Human Extinction Risks and weakness in thinking about the future”), MP CEO, Miguel Ángel Gutiérrez (“Where is the world headed to. The Macro-Transition towards the future”), MP Argentina, Héctor Casanueva (“The 15 global challenges, the 2030 SDGs and the UN Common Agenda”), MP Chile. All the lessons of the course will be in Spanish, apart from Glenn’s one that will be in English.
Course Description: The world is experiencing a macro-transition towards the future: geopolitical, ecological, digital, energetic. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated these processes and increased levels of uncertainty. The new society that is going to emerge is not completely defined yet but we must build it on the basis of trends, emerging realities and scenarios of possible futures. Understanding these transitions is key to strategically design national, local or international public policies, and address local and global business developments. We must know the present, anticipate possible future scenarios if we want to reduce uncertainty, and be prepared for multidimensional crises like the current one. An essential task for all actors, public and private, is to generate socially, environmentally and economically sustainable development, as proposed by the 17 SDGs of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, together with the proposal of the UN SG “Our Common Agenda ”And the 15 global challenges of The Millennium Project.
