“Prospectiva del siglo XXI: Entender las mega-tendencias y la nueva globalización, para construir futuros desde la Prospectiva Estratégica” is a new publication by Héctor Casanueva (Chile Node) with contributions from Rafael Sabat, Miguel Gutiérrez (Argentina Node), María Pía Aqueveque, and Ibon Zugasti (Spain and RIBER Nodes), with preface by the Oscar Arias, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former President of Costa Rica.
This book has an introductory purpose. It is a gateway to know and analyze trends marking the 21st century in relation to policy, economy, finance, technology, environment, and other expressions related to the new globalization. It helps understand the present, from elementary to more complex expressions, in terms of future and it is aimed for students, academics, social actors, businessmen, and professionals from different disciplines, both from the public and private sectors.
The book is the result of the experience of the university and professional work of the authors on these subjects, developed in recent years in different parts of the world, especially in Europe and Latin America, and under different scenarios and circumstances, by teaching, giving lectures, and writing articles and essays for the media and for academic journals.
From these experiences, the need for more knowledge and guidance on what is happening and what can happen has emerged, both for old and new actors, and for the community in general and in decision-making processes at all levels as well. We need to interpret daily signals to understand where the world is headed or could be heading, and to define future scenarios to help us orientate in the midst of an accelerating and hyper-connected globalization, with new realities that break with past paradigms and categories, and we need to understand that we are riding an exponential technological revolution that impacts every aspect of our life.
The information, data, and ideas contained in the five chapters of the book are based on the Strategic Foresight discipline, a set of methodologies to study trends, risks, and threats, and to identify and imagine future scenarios for reducing uncertainty through prevention and anticipation and to support global and local governance.
The authors intend to contribute to disseminating, explaining, and giving guidance in relation to the new issues of the 21st century and to motivate readers to understand more by giving a complete bibliography after each chapter.
The book will be launched on December 5, 2022 during an online meeting organized by the Instituto de Estudios Internacionales. You can register at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUkfuyhrjkrGdPW9mDlgOFRGFVSA1KC_oS5.
