A new video on Global Challenge 13: How can growing energy demands be met safely and efficiently? has been released as part of The Millennium Project’s series on the 15 Global Challenges included in the recent State of the Future 20.0 publication, courtesy of the France Node.
The video on Global Challenge 13 shows that the world must rapidly generate safe energy to meet the needs of an additional 2.5 billion people by 2050, alongside new demands from technologies like AI and electric vehicles. Although global energy demand is rebounding and renewable sources, especially solar, are growing, fossil fuel consumption is expected to rise until the mid-2020s. Electric vehicles are displacing significant oil use, and advancements in battery technology are underway. However, achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 remains difficult due to ongoing reliance on fossil fuels, necessitating increased investments in nuclear energy, steel production efficiency, and innovative technologies.
We will release a video on the 15 global challenges every Monday as a premiere on our YouTube channel ! Join the conversation as we explore how to turn around these trends and secure a sustainable future for all.
