A new video on Global Challenge 12: How can transnational organized crime be stopped from becoming more powerful and sophisticated enterprises? has been released as part of The Millennium Project’s series on the 15 Global Challenges included in the recent State of the Future 20.0 publication, courtesy of the France Node.
The video on Global Challenge 12 on Transnational organized crime shows how it constitutes about 3% to 7% of global GDP, or approximately $5.8 trillion annually, surpassing global military spending. Cybercrime has risen from $3 trillion in 2015 to an estimated $8 trillion in 2023, blurring lines with terrorism and insurgency. The human cost includes violence and counterfeit drugs, which lack recognition by the ICC as crimes against humanity. A global strategy is needed, with proposals for a financial prosecution system funded by frozen assets and enhanced digital transparency, like India’s biometric identity system, to reduce corruption.
We will release a video on the 15 global challenges every Monday as a premiere on our YouTube channel ! Join the conversation as we explore how to turn around these trends and secure a sustainable future for all.
