Substantial increases in the awareness of AGI issues and coordination among AGI actors, countries, and NGOs were made. Beginning with implementation discussions of the recommendations of the High-Level AGI Expert Panel report with Members of the Council of Presidents of the UN General Assembly and Mariana Torodorova (Member of this AGI Panel and Chair of the Bulgarian Node of The Millennium Project). Arrangements are being made to brief the UN Members on the recommendations of the report leading to a UN General Assembly specifically on AGI. After the Council’s meeting the new President of the UN GA Annalina Baerbock (photo attached) joined the Council for dinner to discuss UN priorities include governance of AGI and that the new international scientific panel on AI should have a working group on AGI. During a Club de Madrid meeting on AI, a staff member for the new AI Panel expressed interest in collaborating on our AGI work.
I also spoke about AGI governance at the Nizami Ganjavi International Center conference, the largest side-meeting with former heads of governments (Godon Brown, maybe 20 others), UN agencies (WHO and others). and NGOs (Ismail Serigeldin, Amr Mousa).
Also spoke at the AI Safety Connect (largest meeting specifically on AI safety) sponsored by FAR.AI, aigov-coordination, Future Society, MILA, and the Governments of Singapore, Canada, and India. Throughout this week, I held a series of one-on-one meetings with leading AGI experts including Lan Xue (China), Duncan Cass-Beggs (Canada), Phoebe Koundouri (Greece), Yoshua Bengio (Canada), Srgjan Kerim (Northern Macedonia), as well as long-time Millennium Project friends such as Ismail Serageldin (World Bank) and Leonel Fernández (former President of the Dominican Republic).
