The Vicerectoría de Investigación y Escuela de Planificación y Promocion Social, in collaboration with The Millennium Project Costa Rica Node among others, organizes the first national congress on futures studies in Costa Rica, “I Congreso Nacional Sobre Estudios de Futuros en Costa Rica: experiencias teóricas, metodológicas y pràcticas” on October 11-12, 2023, at UNA – Campus Higuerón, Heredia, San Pablo, Costa Rica.

The conference aims at raising awareness and recognizing the efforts of public and private organizations at national level, especially universities, to institutionalize Futures Studies as a typical activity of any organization. The event promotes a first meeting among institutions and companies that are promoting future studies for exchanging knowledge, approaches, methods, practices, and learnings, and for promoting the meeting and joint collaboration in common actions.

Among the key speakers of the event on Day 1, Ibon Zugasti, MP Board member and Spain Node Chair, will discuss on the “Prospectiva de Siglo XXI”, taking inspiration from a recent publication he co-authored. On the same day, Francisco José Mojica, Colombia Node Co-Chair, will discuss on “Enfoques Teóricos y metodológicos de estudios de los futures”, while Javier Vitale Rodríguez, Co-Chair of the Mendoza Sub-Node of The Millennium Project, will report on an “Experiencia de Aplicación de Prospectiva Territorial”. On the second day, Ibon Zugasti will also give a keynote speech on the “Prospectiva Estratégica”, followed by a keynote speech on “El Método Prospectivo” by Francisco José Mojica.
