The Franz Tamayo University (Unifranz), hosting the Bolivia Node of Millennium Project once again places Bolivia on the global innovation map with the organization of Futures Week 2025, an event that transcends the academic sphere to become a civic laboratory where the future is imagined, designed, and prototyped.
From November 10 to 13, the city of La Paz will host this gathering that brings together international experts, young leaders, and thinkers from diverse fields to collectively build a vision of the future under the theme “Conscious City”, focused on water management, environmental sustainability, and education in the face of climate change.
“The future is not awaited, it is designed. And to design it well, we need information, reflection, and collective action,” says Verónica Ágreda de Pazos, National Rector of Unifranz and Chair of the Bolivia Node of the Millennium Project, during the press conference held in November 6, 2025. “From Bolivia, we are contributing a perspective that combines creativity, youth, and social awareness in the construction of sustainable futures,” she adds.
Futures Week, co-organized with The Millennium Project, RIBER, and Construyendo Futuros, is the living expression of the Millennium Project’s work in Bolivia. Through this platform, Unifranz connects global thought with local action, bringing reflection on the planet’s greatest challenges —such as urbanization, education, or climate change— into a tangible space: the city and everyday life.
Over four days, Futures Week 2025 will gather national and international experts to share methodologies, trends, and strategic foresight tools. Participants —mostly young people— will apply this knowledge to imagine what La Paz in 2030 could look like: a more sustainable, more human, and more technologically advanced city. The event goes beyond lectures. Above all, it is a space for co-creation, where attendees will work in multidisciplinary teams to design solutions and prototypes addressing current urban challenges.
The global nature of the Millennium Project is also reflected in the diversity of voices participating in this edition. Among the international guests are:
- Yesenia González, Senior Consultant in Educational Innovation at Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico).
- Guillermo Gándara, Director of the Ibero-American Foresight Network and a leading Latin American expert in futures studies.
- Delia Barriga Ciudad, Executive Director of Fab Lab Peru and leader of Fab Women, promoting women’s inclusion in technological innovation.
- Santi Fuentemilla, from Fab Lab Barcelona and the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, a pioneer in smart city design.
At the national level, specialists such as Jorge Pazos (Fab Lab Santa Cruz), Vladimir Terán Gutiérrez (AGETIC), Daniel Cruz Fuentes (WHO Environmental Health Consultant), Aracely Alurralde (Municipal Planning Secretariat of La Paz), and María René Duchén, journalist and communicator, will join the event.
