The European Social and Industrial Research group (ESIR), which includes Nondas Christophilopoulos, Chair of the Greece Node of the Millennium Project Node, has released a new report, Policy Pressure Points, proposing a novel framework for European policymaking in an era of polycrisis. The report introduces the concept of “policy acupuncture”—identifying high-leverage interventions that can trigger systemic change across Europe’s economic, social, ecological, and technological domains.
The report identifies ten key policy pressure points, ranging from redefining economic value and resource productivity to enhancing data sovereignty, multi-level governance, and long-term foresight, all designed to strengthen Europe’s resilience, competitiveness, and transformative capacity.
Importantly, the publication emphasizes the adoption of forward-looking metrics that go beyond GDP, highlighting tools such as the State of the Future Index (SOFI). Unlike conventional indicators that measure past or present conditions, SOFI combines multiple variables and expert assessments to project likely future trajectories, offering policymakers a systemic and anticipatory basis for decision-making to promote long-term wellbeing and sustainability across Europe.
