Call for abstracts on “Security Challenges towards the Middle of the 21 st Century” – July 31, 2025

Following the success of Issues of Terrorism in the Post-Coronavirus Era, a book edited by Richard J. Chasdi and Yair Sharan, dedicated to the memory of Theodore J. Gordon, the Israel Node of The Millennium Project, co-chaired by Dr. Yair Sharan, is preparing a new edited volume titled Security Challenges Towards the Middle of the 21st Century.

This upcoming publication will address the intensifying and complex nature of global security threats, particularly in the wake of recent conflicts such as the October 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attacks against Israel and the ongoing war in Ukraine. These events underscore the urgent need to anticipate and understand the future trajectories of terrorism and related threats as we approach mid-century.

The volume will bring together international experts to examine critical issues including the strategic and political implications of recent attacks, shifts in terrorism patterns post-Ukraine, the emergence of space-based terrorism, the role of artificial intelligence in both enabling and countering terrorist activity, the intersection of migration and security vulnerabilities, and the evolving global alliance structure—particularly in light of a potential second Trump administration. It will also explore strategies to strengthen societal and governmental resilience, innovative applications of smart city technologies for border security, and the growing significance of hybrid terrorism and public-private sector collaboration.

Researchers and professionals interested in contributing are invited to submit an abstract of no more than 300 words outlining their proposed chapter and approach. Abstracts should be submitted by July 31, 2025. Full chapters will be requested in 2026, following publisher approval of the volume. The book will be co-edited by Dr. Richard J. Chasdi and Dr. Yair Sharan, Co-Chair of the Israel Node of The Millennium Project.
