The AI Summit began in Seoul, South Korea, on May 21. The Summit build on the legacy of the first AI Safety Summit which was hosted by the UK at Bletchley Park in November 2023, and brought together international governments, AI companies, academia, and civil society to advance global discussions on AI.
Among the parallel virtual sessions, David Wood, Co-Chair of the UK Node of The Millennium Project, hosted a talk with Yoshua Bengio discussing the recent paper on AGI safety by Yoshua Bengio, Geoff Hinton, Sören Mindermann, and 22 others published on Science.
On the same day, US released its position during the Summit, and World leaders agreed to launch a network of safety institutes, with a joint agreement among ten countries and the European Union to develop more artificial intelligence (AI) safety institutes to align research on machine learning standards and testing.
Maybe the world is waking up? And not just looking at arrow AI we have today, but hopefully will be looking at future AGI. So, now we have to get national legislatures to authorized national governance systems in cooperation with a new kind of multi-stakeholder UN Hybrid (human and AI) System as rated the highest in Phase 2 of The Millennium Project AGI Governance Study to be released soon. Busy day for AGI folks.
