Earth’s systems are undergoing drastic transformations due to climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution and other human-caused environmental pressures. These changes are expected to introduce profound challenges for people and the rest of Earth’s life over the coming decades as various planetary system limits are crossed.
Futures Conference 2022
The Planetary Futures of Health and Wellbeing conference focuses on the wide variety of ways people imagine planetary futures to inform their ambitions to produce general health and wellbeing in our societies. This 22nd Futures Conference will take place on June 15-17, 2022 in a hybrid format, both online and in Turku. (Finland).
The conference explores questions such as: How can people today identify new pathways for fostering the conditions and behaviours that allow human and non-human life to thrive? How can health and wellbeing for humans and other species be supported at planetary scale? What structures and actions are needed to produce a sufficient level of human wellbeing at the global level to improve our socio-ecological resilience?
A special hybrid session about “Anticipatory governance to boost crisis preparedness – what policy actions needed for resilient cities and human-friendly AI?” is organized by the Millennium Project on June 16, 2022, 13,30-15,00
The Special Millennium Project Session discusses these questions by providing a keynote by Jerome Glenn, commentary talks with Sirkka Heinonen and Osmo Kuusi (co-chairs of the Millennium Project Finland Node), and an interactive debate and elaboration of the topic that encourages participants to give and analyse suggestions for concrete policy actions and recommended practices. The ultimate goal is to explore possibilities for providing urban space that is crisis resilient, prone for healthy living and wellbeing, and embedded with trustworthy and human-friendly AI as support for daily living.
Another MP-related online side event is the annual Foresight Europe Network meeting scheduled in June 15, 2022, 10.00-12.30 EEST (UTC+3), and organized by the FEN Node of the Millennium Project. The event is open but need registration.
The Futures 2022 conference is organized the University of Turku, the Finland Futures Research Centre (Finland Node), and the Finland Futures Academy. The final program will be released soon. Meantime, an ’early-bird’ registration is available until April 14, 2022.
