We are excited to announce the release of a new video on Global Challenge 4: How can genuine democracy emerge from authoritarian regimes?, as part of The Millennium Project’s series on the 15 Global Challenges included in the recent State of the Future 20.0 publication, courtesy of the France Node.

The new video on Global Challenge 4 explores the decline in democratization over the past 18 years, with around 70% of the world’s population now living under autocratic regimes. Press freedom is shrinking, and disinformation, fueled by AI and bots, is undermining democratic processes. Despite these challenges, new technologies are increasing access to governance and exposing corruption. The challenge also highlights the role of organizations like the Open Government Partnership and Transparency International in reinforcing global democratic values.
