A recent initiative called Youth Futures, highlighted by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), focuses on empowering young changemakers to design socially just futures. This project, spearheaded by the Southern Africa Node of The Millennium Project, in collaboration with other global partners including the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Institute for Security Studies, and Foresight for Development, aims to engage youth in creating innovative solutions to critical social challenges.
The project’s objectives include fostering youth leadership, promoting social equity, and driving sustainable development. Activities have ranged from workshops and mentorship programs to collaborative projects where young participants develop actionable plans for environmental sustainability, economic inclusion, and social justice.
The initiative has already achieved significant results, including the creation of community-driven projects and frameworks that address pressing local and global issues. These outcomes demonstrate the crucial role of youth in shaping a more just and sustainable world and reflect the ongoing impact of the Southern Africa Node and its partners in advancing global social justice.
