EuroDIG 2024 – Balancing innovation and regulation is going to take place from June 17–19 in Vilnius, Lithuania! It will be hosted by the Communications Regulatory Authority of Lithuania (RRT) in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Lithuania and Public Institution GoVilnius.
Epaminondas Christophilopoulos, Chair of the Greece Node of The Millennium Project, will be joining the event as one of the speakers of the Launch Event for the Council of Europe and IEEE Joint Report on the Metaverse and its impact on Human Rights, Rule of Law, and Democracy – Pre -event of the conference taking place on June 17, 2024, 14:00 – 15:30 EEST.
The session will explore the profound implications of the Metaverse on human rights, the rule of law, and democracy. Discussions will focus on the need for adaptive regulatory frameworks to manage privacy, data protection, and intellectual property rights within these immersive environments. Ethical considerations will also be examined, particularly how these technologies affect individual autonomy, identity, and societal values. Furthermore, the event will highlight the importance of inclusive design to ensure equitable access for all users, especially vulnerable populations, and address the critical issue of protecting children’s rights and well-being in virtual spaces. This comprehensive dialogue aims to foster a nuanced understanding of the Metaverse and its impact, paving the way for a more inclusive and rights-respecting digital future.
The Pan-European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG) is an open platform for informal, inclusive and bottom up discussions on public policy issues related to the Internet.
