The Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory is hosting the 4th International Conference on Anticipation November 16th-18th 2022 at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona and a virtual conference on November 4th, 2022.
The aim of the conference and of the interdisciplinary field of Anticipation Studies is to create new understandings of how individuals, groups, institutions, systems, and cultures use ideas of the future to act in the present.
The conference will emphasize questions of justice in 7 thematic areas: Public Futures, Politics, Justice and Ethics of Anticipation, Decolonizing Anticipation, Critical Anticipatory Capacities, Creativity, Innovation and New Media, Time & Temporalities, and ‘Also You!’.

- November 4th, 2022
Shermon Cruz, Philippines Node, et al., will run a workshop on the 4th (Asia Pacific) about “Regenerative X: A City Futures Game”. Cruz will also give a keynote speech about “Invoking indigeneity to reimagine the knowledge base and practice of anticipation”.
Epaminondas Christofilopoulos, Greece and FEN Nodes, et al., will give a speech on the 4th (Europe, Middle East, Africa) about “#OurFuture”, the EU recent platform for imagining alternative futures, during the “Public Futures” session.
Sirkka Heinonen, Finland Node, et al., will present “Constructing fair and flourishing futures – transformative policies for living in crisis-resilient spaces” during the “Critical Anticipatory Capacities” session.
Nicolas Balcom Raleigh, FEN Node, Anna Sacio-Szymańska and Kacper Nosarzewski, Poland Node, et al., will present “Community of Inquiry as a Compost Pyle: The story of FLxDeep”.
On the 4th of Oct. (The Americas), Lydia Garrido, Uruguay Node, et al., will present “Anticipatory Governance. Relations between temporarility, the ‘use of the future’, collective sense-making and decision making” and “La construcción de inter y transdisciplina para una Gobernanza Anticipatoria del Agua” on the same day.

During the live conference in Arizona on the 16th of November, Lydia Garrido et al. will present “Responsible Future” in a curated session and “Anticipatory Governance. Delving into the quality of ‘anticipatory’ as a practical onto-epistemic capacity for ‘using the future'” during the “Anticipatory Governance session”.
On the 17th, Shermon Cruz et al. will present “Paglalayag Tungo sa Hiraya, the Unconscious Imagination and Igniting Ethical Aspirations: the Case of Hiraya Foresight”.
Lydia Garrido et al. will present “Democratizing the ‘use-of-the-future’ through Futures Literacy as a capability and competence”.
On November 18th, Gegi-Laruri-Sebina, Southern Africa Node, et al. will present “Foresight’s Special Issue on Reconceptualising Foresight and its Impact: Learning about the Capacity do Decolonise”
